Some of the most important technological advancements Germany made in World War One was that of poison gas, flamethrowers, armed airplanes, and tanks. Germany built twenty tanks called the A7V model. These tanks were successful in battle. The first design of a flamethrower was submitted to the German army by Richard Fiedler in 1901. The flamethrower was first used by German troops in Verdun in February 1915. Flamethrowers were extremely helpful because they neutralized soldiers in confined spaces but did not inflict any structural damage. Poison gas used in the War resulted in many deaths. The first successful use of poison gas was on April 22, 1915, in Ypres, when Germany sprayed the French colonial troops. The Germans were the first to arm airplanes with machine guns, making the air a battlefield. Germany played a huge part in the technological advancements that were made in World War I.
